RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults)

Sacraments for Adults

What is RCIA?

RCIA is both an exploratory and a preparation programme for adults wishing to find out more about the Catholic faith, and for those wanting to receive the sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Communion as appropriate. It is also suitable for Catholics who may have missed the sacrament of Confirmation.

The programme is tailored to the needs of those attending and for those who opt to receive the sacraments this is celebrated at the Easter Vigil on Easter Saturday night. The programme normally runs from autumn through to the following Easter.

During the programme we encourage those attending to attend Mass on a regular basis in preparation for becoming part of the parish community.

Those receiving the sacraments at Easter will need a sponsor, effectively a Godparent for an adult; the sponsor should be an active member in the Catholic Church able to support the new Catholic.

For more information contact the Parish Office initially; one of our Catechists will then call or meet with you in order to give you more information based on your own individual situation.
